HOW WE STARTED
The Heart of Lebanon initially formed as the nonprofit arm which would to work with the Office of Community and Rural Affairs as part of the Hometown Collaboration Initiative – an initiative targeted to Indiana communities that are committed to building on their existing assets. As part of this process, Lebanon’s downtown was designated as an official Indiana Main Street in January of 2016 and a Nationally Accredited Main Street in 2022. The Heart of Lebanon remains active both with Main Street America, Indiana Office of Community Rural Affair’s Indiana Main Street program and as a 501(c)(3) organization to foster the revitalization and reengagement of the downtown as the cultural center of Lebanon, Indiana.
WHAT WE DO
Advocate
Create a supportive and collaborative environment for the small businesses and shops which encompass the square. We are leaders for initiatives that position the downtown as the center of the community and hub of economic activity, while creating a positive image that showcases our community’s unique characteristics
Engagement
To help spur tourism and attract new visitors to the downtown, the Heart of Lebanon plans and hosts a few signature events. These bring together our community and allow visitors to see all that Lebanon has to offer.
Design
Create an inviting, inclusive atmosphere while celebrating the historic character that surrounds downtown. We aim to foster accessible, people-centered public spaces by helping to activate the Big Four trail and alley areas.
